Position Title : Director, United for Business
Status : Exempt, Full-Time
Salary : $84,000.02-$86,000.20

Location : Primarily based out of our Denver office at 711 Park Ave W, Denver, CO 80205. 3 days / week in office, 2 days / week remote.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary for this position is $84,000.02-$86,000.20 annually. In an effort to increase equity and to avoid unfair bias historically associated with salary negotiations, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.
How You‘ll Help
Mile High United Way‘s United for Business (UFB) program works to help small businesses, primarily women and minority-owned, thrive and grow by providing no-cost programs and technical assistance delivered by United for Business staff and experienced volunteer and mentor business leaders. Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Program Strategy and Community Partnerships, this position will be instrumental in providing vision, innovative and efficient strategic planning, leadership, expand program development and hands-on consulting service to small businesses in underserved communities. The role will be responsible for directing the United for Business team, partnering with different volunteers and mentors, local and state organizations, councils, and collaboratives to co-create and implement our strategy while ensuring alignment with other appropriate and agreed-upon initiatives. The director will manage a team as well as oversee the UFB flagship programs of our small business accelerator, website build initiative, pitch competition, and annual Thrive Summit as well as our ARPA contracts. This position will also be the main liaison between the United for Business board : sharing information, engaging them in various UFB opportunities and initiatives, and assessing if they would be interested in volunteering or mentorship opportunities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Direct the small business program strategy for Mile High United Way that encompasses short and long-term goals for the agency as well as the target areas with specific measurable outcomes. The strategy is based on values such as leadership, collaboration, accountability, diversity and inclusivity, multi-generational approaches, and quality and includes best practices and evidence-based research on how to grow minority-led small businesses.
- Lead the integration of community economic development and workforce development principles into the program and the communities served by the program.
- Identify business policy efforts and assess if the organization‘s position should be in opposition, support, or monitor for local, state, and federal legislation that impacts small businesses with the Policy and Impact Investing team making the final decision.
- Develop and manage collaborative relationships with new and existing community partners from other aligned agencies, chambers of commerce, contractors, and other funded partners that advance the goals and objectives of the UFB strategy.
- Serve as a thought leader in advancing innovative ideas and challenges faced by the small business community.
- Work across programs to help maximize resources for its program participants.
- Work closely with the Evaluation and Learning team to identify, collect, and analyze appropriate data to continually inform efforts.
- Actively cultivate relationships with prospective and current volunteer business advisors, working closely with MHUW‘s Resource Development team.
- Serve as the liaison between the Board of Trustees United for Business committee and the UFB team.
- Oversee distribution of funds for the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) contracts and other government funding initiatives.
