**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Surgery Scheduler to join our dynamic healthcare team. The Surgery Scheduler will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures for our patients while ensuring a seamless experience from appointment booking to patient follow-up. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Schedule surgeries and procedures in collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and other medical staff to optimize operating room utilization.
- Confirm patient eligibility and insurance authorization prior to scheduling surgeries.
- Collect and maintain accurate patient information, including demographics, insurance details, and medical histories.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding surgical procedures, pre-operative instructions, and necessary preparations.
- Answer patient inquiries about surgery scheduling, three NPO instructions, discharge instructions, and follow-up appointments.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., lab, radiology) to ensure all preoperative tests are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain up-to-date surgery schedule and communicate changes to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with any necessary documentation and record-keeping related to surgical scheduling and patient files.
- Manage and monitor scheduling software to ensure the accuracy of procedures and appointments.
- Work with the surgical team to address any scheduling conflicts or emergencies.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of scheduling processes.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, in addition to state and federal regulations.
**Qualifications:**
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, specifically in surgery scheduling or similar roles, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and healthcare scheduling software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on customer service.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
