We are seeking a Business Development Specialist based in any of our Greater Metro Detroit, Michigan area offices who will be responsible for supporting initiatives to strengthen client relationships, develop new business channels, promote internal cross-selling efforts, and elevate the public profile of the firm and its key practice and industry groups. This position works closely with the firm’s Director of Business Development & Marketing, practice group and team leaders, and firm management to identify revenue-generating opportunities that support the firm’s strategic growth.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare client pitches, proposals and responses to RFPs, including ownership of the process. Monitor public and private databases for opportunities. Work collaboratively with attorneys to customize content, develop pricing models and help prepare legal teams for pitches.
- Monitor and research market and industry trends, competitor activity, existing and prospective client developments. Coordinate opportunities for attorney outreach and engagement to help position the firm for increased effectiveness in winning new business.
- Coordinate initiatives that can add value to and deepen client relationships, including client award nominations, using social media to promote the Firm and help attorneys increase their profiles, and making industry connections.
- Collaborate with attorneys to expand business development efforts including assisting partners with the execution of plans, tracking initiatives and outcomes.
- Maintain deal database and track matters for marketing and business development purposes through available systems.
- Coordinate the drafting and submission of content for legal directories including Chambers USA; leverage rankings and accolades in business development and marketing materials.
- Create and update content for attorney bios, and firm and practice group descriptions for the website and other marketing materials.
- Support firmwide business development training program, including coaching attorneys on successful networking for business development and presenting marketing-related training opportunities for attorneys.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the integration of lateral attorneys with an emphasis on facilitating strategic business opportunities.
- Regularly attend practice group meetings; coordinate business development efforts that support practice area growth, and report on initiatives and results.
- Support client and industry service teams as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in related field.
- 3 years of marketing or business development experience in a professional services firm or closely related work environment.
- Highly motivated, responsive, and conscientious, with a commitment to delivering excellent client service.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels.
- Superior project management skills and the ability to juggle competing and shifting priorities.
