This Community Rehabilitation worker position is a part-time job to support a high-functioning 30-year old young adult living independently with complex developmental disabilities. The goal is to support their quality of life through daily experiences. As the "mentor," you will be scheduled for approximately one to four 4-hour shifts per week (9 AM-1 PM and 4 PM-8 PM Monday-Sunday), with flexibility to adjust your schedule as needed given appropriate notice. This job starts at $25/hour (with ability for a raise once you become a dependable and long-term member of the team) and you can create a schedule that is able to flexibly accommodate your needs. The client prefers working with people who are vaccinated, do not smoke and are over the age of 35.
The young adult is seeking a "mentor" to join their "tribe," a team of qualified caregivers, with experience in care-giving, mental health, special education, psychology, and similar backgrounds. The person likes to be active and engaged in the community, and is very capable and self-advocates well. The client seeks mentor who is a creative, independent thinker and a calm, kind and fun person. We seek someone who is extremely reliable, open-minded, and a problem solver. Dependability, good communication and patience are essential.
Experience working with neurologically divergent people with mental health challenges is a plus. Awareness of how to de-escalate situations that arise and learn how to recognize behavioral situations that might be challenging are valuable.
Regular activities include supporting independent life skills, self-care, and social behavior, making sure the two cats are cared for, and driving for errands, community and social outings around the region.
Skills such as building positive communication and social interaction, anxiety reduction and psychology, health and nutrition, healing arts and safety, homemaking, arts and crafts, nature activities, love of cats and budgeting are a plus.
The client's home in Averill Park, as part of the Self-Direction Program of Office of People with Developmental Disabilities through Wildwood. Applicants must pass a NYS background check.
