Pipe Fitter Journeyman

Requirements of the position:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Pipe Fitter with a strong knowledge of shipboard pipe repair functions.
- Read/write/speak English.
- Demonstrate basic math skills.
- Near vision acuity correctable to 20/20 or better.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
- Have a HS Diploma or GED.
- Able to pass a security background check.
- Able to pass a drug screen.
- Must have a California driver’s license.
- Able to work onboard ship; Climb ladders, scaffolds, work in confined spaces and on platforms off the ground.
- Must be proficient on silver brazing and pass qualification.
- Must possess tools listed on the attached tool requirement list.
- Must be able to follow specifications, blueprints, layouts, and work orders.
Responsibilities:
- Must be self-motivated, knowledgeable, and able to perform the duties and responsibilities as a Pipe Fitter Leadman.
- Understand and instruct employees in the areas of Company Policies (i.e., Code of Ethics, Core Values, and Rules and Regulations. Ensure employees adhere to Government, Prime Contractor, and Shipboard Policies and Rules and Regulations.
- Must be knowledgeable and have a clear understanding of company forms and references, and the file location in the Company’s Network System. Ensure updated forms are kept and maintained at each work site and available when required.
- Open Gang Boxes, ensure employees are properly accounted, assign tasks, and ensure each employee properly updates their timecard daily, on the job site. Ensure all employees report to you prior to securing for the day.
- Immediately report any incidents, accidents, emergencies, and missing or absent employees to the Supervisor, Ship Superintendent, or Program Manager.
- Ensure WAFs, Hot Work Chits, and Paint Samples are completed, submitted, and proper hung in the appropriate space/compartment in a timely manner.
- Ensure all documentation is submitted after each Ship Check in a timely manner.
- Ensure employees are cable to work, wearing the Proper Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, and proper housekeeping is being performed in all work areas daily, at each job site.
- Ensure all documentation is submitted after each Ship Check in a timely manner. Ensure all material and equipment is ordered and available for use, on the job site. Extract material requirements from blueprints and specifications. (Call Ext. 201 in emergency cases).
- Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Items, which include the following:
- 009-12: Weld, Fabrication, and Inspection Requirements; accomplish
- 009-24: Authorization, Control, Isolation, Blank, and Tagging Requirements; accomplish
- 009-25: Structural Boundary Test; accomplish
- 009-71: Testing Requirements for Piping Systems; accomplish
- 009-107: Piping System Cleanliness (Non-Nuclear); accomplish
- Must be qualified and maintain all trade certifications, which include the following:
- Silver Braze
- Hydro Testing
- Tank Testing
- WAF
- PAI
- Loking
- Install ship's piping systems (i.e., steam, potable water, sea water, JP-5, fuel oil, chilled water, compressed air, galley equipment, and pumps).
- Tool up for any given piping job task.
- Rip-out, lay-out pipe sections that needs replacement.
- Air test tanks and submittal of Required Reports.
- Record pipe fit-up (diametrical) measurements on Fit-U Form.
- Operate shop machinery, such as pipe threading machine, hydro-pump, and a one shot pipe-bender to the given specifications.
- Move around ships safely, work at heights and confined spaces, and understand all OSHA Safety Requirements.
- Test installed systems for leaks.
- Ensure that the system meets specifications.
