Job Summary/Basic Function
The Career Center/Mentorship Office seeks students to serve as peer mentors. Peer Mentors are enthusiastic representatives of Millersville University who commit to being a resource for students. Peer Mentors address students’ questions, which may include what it is really like to be a student at MU, how to manage time effectively, how to get involved on campus, and other questions related to the college transition.
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled Millersville University Student
- Have completed at least 24 credits at MU
- Minimum GPA 2.0
- Available to work five hours per month for a full academic year, from August-May
- Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills and a willingness to accept responsibility
- Demonstrate role model behavior. Candidates must be in good disciplinary standing. Personal Conduct Probation or a Disciplinary Reprimand within the last twelve months disqualifies you for the position.
- Willing to maintain confidentiality
- Willing to complete three background clearances: PA State Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History Clearance, and FBI Federal Criminal History Fingerprinting
Preferred Qualifications
Job Duties
Tasks may include the following:
- Serve as a Peer Mentor for at least one student
- Communicate with students in person, via text, Skype, and/or phone, spending at least two hours per month communicating with each mentee
- After communicating with mentees, submit conversation logs on app.mentorcollective.org
- Log at least two conversations per month with each mentee during the academic year
- Provide Mentor Collective and the Mentorship Office with feedback on how to improve the program (complete all surveys, user interviews, etc. when requested)
- Participate in five hours of Peer Mentor training addressing Mentor Collective resources, the role of the mentor, how to access campus supports, and three additional topics identified in the College Reading and Learning Association’s (CRLA) International Standards for Peer Educators
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Be able to sit and use a computer for the length of shift
