Job Summary / Basic Function
The Office of International Programs and Services (IPS) is seeking Coordinator for one or more of the following office units or areas :
- Education Abroad & Partnerships
- International Student & Scholar Services
- Digital Engagement (cross-unit position)
- International Enrollment Management
Student Office Assistants support the day-to-day operations and work independently and / or as a team to accomplish the overall mission and goals of the office.
Under the direct supervision of IPS staff, IPS Coordinators are often the first point of contact for all visiting students, faculty, staff, and guests. Required Qualifications
- Must demonstrate interest in intercultural issues
- Must be patient and sensitive to culturally and linguistically diverse students.
- Ability to multitask and work with multiple projects at one time
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Computer skills (Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications Education Abroad & Partnership ( Study Abroad Support : ) Preference will be given to those with experience traveling internationally, studying abroad, or those who have lived overseas.
International Student Support & Scholar Services / English Language Institute : Preference will be given to those active on campus through campus networks or other positions (clubs, organizations, offices, departments etc.
and with experience studying or living overseas and / or learning a second language.
Digital Engagement : Have an active presence or experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blog / Journal, YouTube, etc.
Previous experience in Photoshop, InDesign, Canva or other design programs / websites. All majors are welcome to apply.
Preference may be given to those in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, Art, Business, and other related fields.
International Enrollment Management : Active on campus through campus networks or other positions (clubs, organizations, offices, departments, etc.
Experience studying or living overseas and / or learning a second language. Job Duties All student employees of IPS are expected to :
- Serve as the first line of communication for students, parents, faculty, staff, and other guests. Answer phones and respond to general email inquiries.
- Perform specific duties for an assigned key contribution area within the IPS Office (Outlined below).
EDUCATION ABROAD & PARTNERSHIPS (Study Abroad Support)
- All student staff in this unit serve as Study Abroad Peer Mentors and assist students through study abroad requirements before, during, and after their program.
- Promote study abroad opportunities to students via presentations and events. Examples include class presentations, student clubs and organizations, Admissions Office / Orientation programming, tabling, and IPS-related events.
- Assist with the development, planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of IPS events and scheduled activities.
Examples include Study Abroad Fair, IPS Open House, Study Abroad Workshops, Study Abroad Orientation, Welcome Back Bash, Photo Contest, International Education Week, and the Celebration of International Education event.
- Assist with other administrative tasks such as tracking student data and paperwork management.
- Generate new ideas for study abroad outreach and engagement for the Millersville University community.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT & SCHOLAR SERVICES / ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE / INTERNATIONAL ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT (International Student Support)
Assist with the development, planning, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of IPS events and scheduled activities.
Examples include International Student Orientation, International Teatime, Global Marauders Club, Global Ambassador Program, immigration-related workshops, Student Success Seminars, international recruitment webinars / presentations and fairs, International Education Week, the Celebration of International Education event, and other international student trips / events throughout the semester.
- Assist with other administrative tasks such as tracking student data and paperwork management related to international student enrollment and student engagement.
- Generate new ideas for international student and scholar outreach and engagement at Millersville University
DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT (Public Relations and Marketing Support)
- Support marketing and communications via social media including maintaining a schedule of postings and responding to posts and messages on IPS accounts.
- Support marketing and communications via other media including Poster or flyer design, newsletter preparation, other projects depending on candidate skills and interest (videos, podcasts, etc.)
- Research and write articles for IPS publications such as International Student Newsletter as well as promote articles with the Snapper and / or with the wider campus’ Director of Communications.
- Attend IPS events (schedule-depending) to capture digital photographs or videos of activities, curate images and videos.
- Interview international and study abroad students to create testimonials for the office.
INTERNATIONAL ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT (International Admissions & Recruitment)
Serve as a secondary point of contact and customer service representative to prospective international students, providing consistent, accurate, and timely information about Millersville University.
Most specifically about the international student experience.
- Respond to inquiries (walk-in, phone, email, and web-based), present to individuals or groups of prospective students, and counsel prospective international students and their parents, academic counselors, and / or recruitment agent regarding the admissions process.
- Assist in the student’s successful navigation of admissions processes via SLATE, with the goal of helping students fully complete an application.
- Represent the University virtually at career fairs, open houses, and other events where prospective international students may be present.
- Assist with Voyage to the Ville and other yield events.
- Assist with the creation, maintenance, and recruitment of current international students and alumni for an ambassador program.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of international recruitment and alumni engagement events online.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Be able to sit and use a computer for the length of shift.
- Must be able to lift / pull / push up to 20 pounds.
- Work may be conducted in a typical office work environment as well as outside.
- Some weekend and evening hours as-needed.
