Hours: Full-time includes nights and weekends

Summary of Position:
House heads are responsible for the health, well-being, and social growth of the students in their respective houses. Through leadership of the house staff and supervision of the houses advising program, house heads lead adults in thinking about student needs, including character development, community relations, house unity, and the Schools core values of integrity, responsibility and respect. House heads are responsible for upholding the Schools expectations, for overseeing discipline within their house, for working with the house council and coordinating opportunities for student leadership, for overseeing house activities, and for maintaining contact with parents/guardians of students in the house. Finally, house heads are responsible for supervising the maintenance of spaces associated with their house and for overseeing the houses physical facility needs. House heads report directly to the director of residential life. To that end, their responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Create a safe and nurturing environment in the house
- Foster a strong sense of house culture
- Promote an inclusive community by embracing and encouraging diversity in all aspects of residential life.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of matters related to gender and gender expansion.
- Experience engaging in informed, age-appropriate discussions with adolescents and adults that serve to build and sustain an inclusive and respectful environment
- Meet weekly with house heads team and bi-weekly with the Director of Residential Life and the counselor assigned to the house
- Collaborate with the other houses to ensure continuity within the residential life program
- Participate in formal and informal opportunities to improve the residential life curriculum
- Attend all house head retreats
- Manage the house budget
- Manage house staff, including any out-of-house advisors
- Facilitate house staff meetings with set agendas
- Oversee training and feedback for house staff
- Attend professional development opportunities related to residential life
- Participate in an annual self-evaluation process
- Participate in emergency preparedness training
- Collaborate with Health & Counseling teams, Campus Safety, and Facilities team to best ensure the safety and well-being of all house residents.
- Uphold standards of behavior and take disciplinary action when needed
- Determine when discipline can be managed in-house or when it should be handled by the deans office
Supervision to be received: Supervised by the Director of Residential Life
