Clerical Specialist – Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC)
Hourly Pay Rate: $16.70 to $25.05

Job Summary: This position oversees the Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC) Info/Intake Desk and Civil Legal Helpline. The objective is to ensure the professional and effective performance of the MJC staff and volunteers in providing service assessment to all individuals seeking assistance, in person, on the phone, or via email. The Clerical Specialist will oversee the recruitment, interviewing, training and supervision of the volunteers staffing the intake desk and Civil Legal Helpline which includes student volunteers and volunteer supervisors on the helpline.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Respond to public questions, requests for information, and request for Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC) clinic assistance on a wide array of complex legal problems, pursuant to SCR 70.41 (Assistance to Court Users).
Provide referral information to various community resources.
Create, implement, and revise all client and volunteer process and procedures for MJC Intake Desk.
Create and maintain resources for the information desk function of intake desk.
Collaborate with MJC team to adjust clinic processes and procedures.
Train and supervise undergraduate interns for MJC Intake Desks and Civil Legal Helpline
Delegate and coordinate intake desk assignments, data entry, and other project work assignments to interns.
Provide supplemental assistance to clinic supervisors as needed.
Update daily volunteer schedules with absences, substitutions, etc.
Coordinate and maintain family law clinic schedule
Create semester intern schedule with Legal Director and create semester law student schedule with MULS Staff
Maintain daily client data, update database, manage storage of client intake forms and maintain daily volunteer data and client appointment scheduling
Assist with creation of regular data reports for MJC partners
Administrative duties to assist MJC Legal Staff
Minimum Education and Years of Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Current Wisconsin resident
At least one (1) year of experience working in a Legal, Court, Social Services or working for an information/referral service.
Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor's Degree
Associate degree in paralegal, court management or criminal justice
Volunteer management experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
