The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) is seeking a motivated Experiential Learning Manager to develop and expand a network of professional learning experiences that will support students' development toward post-baccalaureate careers. The Experiential Learning Manager will focus on providing career-preparatory opportunities across a variety of industries and settings. In addition, the Experiential Learning Manager will work internally to design and implement workshops, seminars, training sessions, and other initiatives to support both students and faculty in career-focused development. This position reports to the Executive Director of Career Services.


Responsibilities:

  1. Define, create, and expand professional experiences that provide meaningful experiential learning for students across internal and external settings.
  2. Develop and maintain a network of businesses, organizations, and other partners offering experiential learning opportunities for students that are varied geographically, industrially, and creatively. This will involve meetings (in-person and video), phone discussions, and messaging. 
  3. Collaborate with institutional partners, including the Innovation Center, Institutional Labs, Galleries, and Advising, to inform and connect students with resources for their professional development and skills enhancement.
  4. Enhance alumni engagement by building experiential learning partnerships with alumni employers, in strong partnership and collaboration with Alumni Relations.
  5. Lead and organize events and programs to help students explore career options, network with professionals, introduce experiential learning opportunities, and enhance their business, financial, and entrepreneurial skills.
  6. Increase partnerships with faculty and academic programs to broaden experiential learning into the curriculum through guest presentations, discussions, and project-based opportunities.
  7. Maintain a database of business/employer prospects and experiential learning opportunities on the college’s Handshake platform.
  8. Support the ongoing evaluation of student needs, outcomes, and external partner feedback in conjunction with Institutional Researcher.
  9. Assist in the development and continuous updating of communications that provide information about experiential learning opportunities at the college.
  10. Provide timely documentation and accurate data to support Title III grant-related requirements.
  11. Monitor and incorporate emerging research and trends in the arts and design industries to ensure relevant learning experiences. This includes involvement in professional associations and groups.
  12. Actively contributes to the strategic planning of experiential learning at the college and the services/resources offered by Career Services. 


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least two years of experience developing student-centered professional development. Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of experiential learning experiences and relationships to student growth and development. Experience within arts and design industries preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with students and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across departments and disciplines.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to best practices in student support and success.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and database software), Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides), and Handshake platform.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and handle sensitive information with discretion.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills to maintain and develop relationships with internal and external partners that support student development needs.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing student learning experiences.
  • Ability to adapt to the evolving needs of students and industries, particularly within the creative arts and visual design fields.
  • Regular on-site presence is required.
