Job Summary

The Recreation Supervisor of After School Programs assists with the oversight of the Districts 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CLCs) and Safe Place Programs. Major responsibilities include monitoring, evaluating and providing support to programs, as well as collaborating with schools and community-based organizations. The ideal candidate possesses a high degree of technical expertise associated with the design, implementation and continued development of high-quality afterschool programs. An unwavering commitment to the advancement of youth and families in the city of Milwaukee is a must.

Salary Range: $62,689 - $90,032

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, education, social work, youth development, or related field.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional work experience or equivalent supervising after-school programs.
  • Proven experience working with children, parents, and families in a recreation, social service, or school environment.
  • Experience working in an urban environment preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with staff, district officials, and other after-school professionals.
  • DCF State Licensing Regulations, YoungStar Quality Rating System requirements and local rules that govern childcare for school-aged programs.
  • Wisconsin Shares childcare subsidy program
Responsibilities
  • Monitor, assist and evaluate Community Learning Center (CLC) and Safe Place site operations, attendance data, program plans, grant renewals and evaluation methods to ensure program and contract standards are met.
  • Assist in developing and refining goals, objectives, and performance standards for CLC and Safe Place Programs.
  • Research and select appropriate materials and instructional strategies for after-school programs.
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of annual CLC grant applications, grant renewals, and program contracts.
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of bi-monthly Site Coordinator and Academic Coordinator meetings, on-going professional development, and seasonal frontline staff training.
  • Meet with principals, teachers, and community-based organizations regarding the strategies and outcomes of their after-school programs.
  • Establish partnerships with other MPS departments, schools, governmental units, agencies, and community-based organizations to develop quality after-school programs throughout the District.
  • Assist with Recreation Department activities as needed.
  • Serve on various committees as required and assigned.
  • Support the Milwaukee Public Schools and Recreation Department Strategic Plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
