Job Summary

Installs, replaces, modifies, inspects, and repairs water system piping, devices, supports, etc., plumbing equipment and devices, low pressure natural gas piping and piping devices, swimming pool water circulation, filtration and piping systems and associated component and devices, water solenoid and thermostatic mixing valves.

Installs, replaces, repairs, modifies, inspects and clears storm, sanitary and clearwater sewer piping and fixtures. Operates pneumatic hammering equipment, cleans and services; sanitary and storm drains, kitchen grease traps, catch and sump basins, etc. Operates and maintains hand and power tools associated with the trade.

Works independently and generally without assistance solving plumbing issues..

Hourly Rate: $57.60/hour

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Licensing Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  2. Must hold a current Journeyman Plumber License issued by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 145.06 (1) (a) & (b). Department of Safety and Professional Services at time of appointment and throughout employment
  3. Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator's license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.
  4. Certification in the EPA Asbestos Abatement Training Program (O&M) within 6 months of appointment Note 1
  5. Silica Hazard Awareness Training within first month of appointment. Note 1,2
  6. Certification in the Lead Safe Renovator Training Program within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
  7. Scaffolding User and Erector Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1,2
  8. Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within 6 months of appointment. Note 1
  9. Confined Space Entry training within 6 months of appointment. Note 1,2
  10. Completion of DFMS Maintenance and Repair Staff New Hire EHS Orientation Training Note 2

Note 1 Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS. Employee must obtain the certification within the time allotted.
Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).

Experience Requirements:

  1. Five (5) years of experience as a journeyman plumber or have completed a Registered Apprenticeship with MPS DFMS. If using the Registered Apprenticeship pathway for experience requirement, a State of Wisconsin Certificate of Apprenticeship completion is required.
  2. One (1) years of experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably in AssetWORKS)
  3. Experience as indicated previously indicated Essential Functions/Core Competencies.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to climb and work at heights at or above 70 feet in all weather conditions
  2. Ability to lift object weighting up to 50 lbs.
  3. Ability to move objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
  4. Exposure to work environments as previously indicated
Responsibilities
  1. Installs, replaces, modifies, inspects and repairs the following:
    1. Water system piping, devices, supports, etc. from the city shut-off valves into and throughout the building being served.
    2. Plumbing equipment and devices including but not limited to; water heaters, pumps, heat exchangers, laboratory equipment, kitchen equipment, various fixtures, faucets, water filters, etc.
    3. Low pressure natural gas piping and piping devices serving plumbing and kitchen equipment and laboratory devices.
    4. Swimming pool water circulation, filtration and piping systems and associated component and devices.
    5. Water solenoid and thermostatic mixing valves.
  2. Installs, replaces, repairs, modifies, inspects and clears storm, sanitary and clearwater sewer piping and fixtures.
  3. Operates pneumatic hammering equipment as required to remove hard surfaces for access to utilities
  4. Cleans and services; sanitary and storm drains, kitchen grease traps, catch and sump basins, etc.
  5. Operates and maintains hand and power tools associated with the trade.
  6. Work independently and generally without assistance solving plumbing issues.
  7. Actively supports the MPS strategic plan.
  8. Perform other related functions as assigned.
