The Job

The assistant buyer will report directly to the president of the company and be responsible for assisting the president in acquiring all inventory to be sold at both our physical and online stores.


They will be responsible for purchase orders, preparing invoices to be paid, liaising with vendors, and ensuring a high standard for the products that the company receives. They will also be involved in additional day-to-day operations of the store as needed. Once fully trained, the assistant buyer will accompany the president of the company during annual business trips. Although full pay and benefits will start on day one, this person will spend the first few months of the job learning our in-store warehouse, inventory, brand, and logistical processes.


The Applicant

We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented person with strong social skills and a positive attitude. An eye for design will be helpful, as well as logistical experience. The applicant will need to be punctual, driven to improve, and good at receiving feedback. An applicant who is curious, and not afraid to ask questions will grow quickly. Our processes are complex, so there is a significant learning curve to the job. Mistakes are expected. Applicants should be able to learn from those mistakes and willing to move on and prepare for future challenges. The right candidate will be flexible and able to adapt to frequent shifts in priorities, depending on the demands of the day. Responsibilities will evolve as the assistant buyer gains experience. Applicants should be eager to become one of the preeminent experts on UVA branded merchandise, realizing that achievement will take work, time, and patience, regardless of previous experience level.  


The Schedule

In order to work closely with the president of the company, the assistant buyer will be expected to work five days a week, with at least one of those days being in-person on Saturday or Sunday. Each shift has a 45" break. Overtime (greater than 40 hours, up to 55-60 hrs/wk) is available and encouraged, but not expected. Our most frequent hours of operation are 10-8.

We offer 100% employer-paid Health and Dental insurance. After 6 months, you will also be eligible for our 401-K matching program of 200%, up to 6% of your pay. Full-time employees receive 1-3 weeks of paid vacation per year, depending on tenure.  Employees receive a 30% discount on all merchandise. Raises are assessed tri-annually, based on performance.


On-Boarding

If interested in your application, we will reach out to set up an in-person interview (required). If you are a good fit for our team, we will schedule a 30 minute orientation to complete necessary paperwork. There is no training during orientation. The orientation is not paid. Training is paid and begins once you are clocked in for your first day.
