THE OPPORTUNITY
The Mind and Spirit Counseling Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality mental health services. Our mission is to walk with people through counseling and education to find hope and healing, and to live a fulfilling life. Our work supports individuals, families, and religious professionals by offering counseling, psychological assessments, clinical training, and spiritual renewal programs. With a staff of nearly 50 and a reputation for excellence, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization and drive our mission forward.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Builds strong Board relations with a vision of preserving and enhancing the Center’s mission.
- In collaboration with the Board’s Governance committee, actively recruits a diverse group of community members who strengthen the Board and who have a passion for mental health services.
- Manages performance of the Center’s staff, working with the executive team to establish performance goals, ensure ongoing staff development, and provide accountability for outcomes.
- Leads succession planning and recruitment efforts for key leadership positions.
- Oversees human resources, including hiring, training, performance management, and compliance with employment laws.
- Fosters open communication and collaboration among staff, building a positive culture dedicated to the Center’s mission.
- Provides support to the clinical team, ensuring high-quality counseling services.
Fundraising & Community Engagement
- Oversees the fundraising efforts of the Community Relations team and works with them to develop strategies to enhance financial growth and stability.
- Cultivates relationships with current donors and key stakeholders.
- Identifies and nurtures relationships with prospective donors through community involvement.
- Builds strong relationships with the Board of Directors with a goal of driving financial contributions.
- Keeps apprised of evolving needs within the community and within the Center’s fields of service.
Strategy and Vision
- Leads the development of the Center’s strategic plan, in conjunction with the Board of Directors and the Executive Team.
- Keeps the Center’s mission ever in the forefront of all operational initiatives and decisions.
- Oversees the achievement of strategic objectives through supervision and support of the Executive Team.
- Identifies opportunities for partnerships, community outreach, and program development.
- Builds on the Center’s unique classes, groups, and programming (e.g., the two-year spiritual formation program, PrairieFire).
Financial Management
- Maintains financial stability and keeps the Board apprised of the Center’s financial status through regular financial reporting.
- Oversees the development of the annual budget, working closely with the Board’s Finance Committee for final Board approval and for ongoing oversight.
- Develops and enforces internal operating policies while maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate is a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and a passion for philanthropy that supports the Center’s long-term sustainability. The candidate will have the following characteristics and experience:
• A strategic vision for the mental health community that encompasses adult and child counseling services, resources for religious professionals and congregations, spiritual renewal programs, psychological assessment, and clinical training, as well as the regulatory environment, community outreach and development.
• 5-10 years of senior level experience in a health care and/or non-profit environment, with a demonstrated ability to:
- support the work of highly trained and competent mental health professionals,
- develop and work with a Board of Directors,
- set and achieve strategic objectives,
- maintain financial stability and prepare/manage budgets,
- engage with community leaders on community outreach and fundraising
• Knowledge of clinical counseling services, including an in-depth appreciation of and sensitivity to a clinician’s world.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor engagement.
• An appreciation for the role spirituality plays in a clinical environment.
• A Master’s or Doctoral degree with evidence of continuous professional development such as current licensure or credentials in chosen field.
