This is not a remote position.

The Medical Coding Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the organizations medical coding programs. This role ensures compliance with all relevant coding standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals while managing a team of coding professionals. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills, combined with extensive knowledge of medical coding processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development and Oversight:

    • Design, implement, and manage medical coding programs to meet organizational needs.

    • Develop policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure accurate and efficient coding operations.

    • Monitor program performance and implement improvements as necessary.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Recruit, train, and manage a team of medical coders and support staff.

    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching to improve productivity and accuracy.

    • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure all coding activities comply with applicable regulations, standards (e.g., ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and payer guidelines.

    • Develop and implement quality assurance programs to maintain high coding accuracy.

    • Stay updated on changes in coding standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting:

    • Analyze coding data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

    • Generate and present reports on coding accuracy, productivity, and financial impact.

    • Collaborate with other departments to optimize revenue cycle management.

  • Education and Training:

    • Provide ongoing education and training for the coding team to maintain certifications and improve skills.

    • Develop training materials and conduct workshops or seminars as needed.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with clinical staff, billing departments, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of coding practices with organizational goals.

    • Address and resolve coding-related inquiries or issues from internal and external stakeholders.

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Masters degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical coding, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.

  • Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification required.

  • Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

    • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, compliance, and revenue cycle management.

    • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

    • Proficiency in medical coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Work Environment:

  • Office setting with opportunities for remote work depending on organizational policies.

  • May require occasional travel for training, conferences, or collaboration with other sites.
