- Responsible for the overall management of site specific golf course operations.
- Effectively plan, coordinate and direct revenue producing golf operation to ensure the mission goals, policies and priorities of the MPRB are incorporated into the operation and maintenance of the facility, programs and services.
- Develop programs that enhance rounds and revenues for the golf course that include promoting league play, selling outing/event play, and increasing daily fee play that includes marketing to all types of potential golfers for the facility(ies) to serve a diverse and broad constituent base.
- Effectively lead and manage operations for golf courses that promote highly respected facilities, services and program offerings, including planning and executing daily operational oversight, promoting excellent customer service, identifying and implementing safety practices.
- In collaboration with the Director, develop proposed golf course(s) budget and manage the golf course(s) approved budget, including managing performance goals; monitoring revenue and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control and effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, and equipment; adapting plans as necessary to meet long term goals; managing and maintaining operational statistics; recommending capital improvement and rehabilitation projects.
- Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and discipline subordinate employees for development of a professional and support staff with a high degree of competence and sound judgment to perform work effectively, efficiently and safely. Ensure supervision and discipline administration are aligned with Civil Service Rules and collective bargaining agreements.
- Provide strategic leadership of the golf courses resources so the operation demonstrates best practices and fully support the current and future needs of the MPRB
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Parks and Recreation, Golf Course Management/Administration, Recreation Administration, Business Administration or closely related field.
- PGA or LPGA Class A Membership (membership must be current and candidate must maintain membership while employed).
- Equivalent combination of professional certification and management experience in golf management.
- Increasingly responsible experience in golf course operations and facility management: at least four (4) years.
- Increasingly responsible experience in leadership, management and administration: at least three (3) years.
- Experience supervising others: at least five (5) years.
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college with a major in Parks and Recreation, Golf Course Management, Recreation Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.
- Increasingly responsible experience in golf course operations and facility management: at least six (6) years.
- Increasingly responsible experience in leadership, management and administration: at least five (5) years.
- Experience supervising others: at least seven (7) years.
- An equivalent combination of related experience and education and training may be considered.
- Class A PGA Member or comparable LPGA certification with at least 2 years of experience at a public golf course.
- Certified Food Service Manager within 12 months of hire.
Skills Crucial to Success in This Role:
- Knowledge of contemporary principles and best practices of golf industry operating standards and procedures, including grounds, food and beverage, leagues, lessons, events, tournaments, and pro shop.
- Knwoeldge of contemporary principles and best practices of personnel management and supervision.
- Knwoeldge of contemporary principles and best practices of accounting, budget preparation, and analysis of financial data.
- Ability to provide effective leadership and support toward the successful and effective performance of staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful, and productive working relationships.
- Ability to negotiate effective and appropriate solutions to difficult conflicts.
- Ability to set appropriate priorities while coordinating multiple projects and meeting critical deadlines.
- Outstanding customer service principles and practices and standards for a diverse customer base.

Selection Process:

What steps the selection process involves:
- We review your minimum qualifications.
- We rate your training and experience based on application materials and supplemental questions (30%).
- We conduct a structured panel interview (oral exam) (70%).
- We calculate your civil service score based on the above components and place you on the eligible list if all testing components are passed (passing score for each component and as an overall score is 70.00 or above). Eligible list will expire in three (3) months.
- We refer the top finalists to the hiring manager for an interview.
- References, including verification of employment and work performance, may be considered.
- We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought.
