What are the responsibilities and job description for the Minneapolis Park Corps Member – Planning Division Placement position at Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (Temp)?
Role Summary
Minneapolis Park Corps provides young adults opportunities to develop job and life skills while earning income and exploring interests in supportive employment experiences in our parks and the outdoors.
This role is for people 18-24 years old and is supported by dedicated Youth Employment and Training staff, and MPRB Planning staff. This entry-level position requires participation in and completion of a training curriculum that includes financial empowerment, professionalism, personal development, and career exploration topics. This is a pilot program with details and program design subject to change.
In addition to participating in the Job Readiness Training Curriculum, the Planning Division Placement will provide the Corps member exposure and experience related to long-term park planning, park design and construction, and park improvements funding. Primary duties include observing and assisting with community engagement, project implementation, and regional park and trail visitor counts. Additional duties include information gathering, research, data analysis, and other tasks related to park planning and design or strategic initiatives.
Participate in employment and work readiness trainings as assigned by Youth Employment and Training staff.
Receive training and assist with community engagement such as attending and coordinating meetings or events, review and summarize feedback, compiling project materials, and creating shared resources.
Receive training and assist with making documents accessible.
Receive training and assist with project implementation such as taking meeting notes, contributing to engagement materials, researching, submitting materials to update project webpages.
Receive training and work across the department to count visitors to the regional park and trail system.
Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills such as the ability to reliably work with email, calendars, and scheduling.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work independently.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Access to reliable transportation and the ability to get to various locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
Minimum Qualifications
- 18-24 years old
- Some prior work experience.
- Open to receiving training and direction.
- Interest in parks, park design, long-term planning.
- Available to work holidays and weekends.

- The incumbent may be required to traverse on rough, uneven terrain, as well as wet and slippery surfaces.
- Work is performed in an office environment and a job site environment, both indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- The visitor count effort is outside, takes place during the summer months, and involves traveling to a variety of locations throughout Minneapolis.

Background investigation is required.

$17/hour
