JOB DESCRIPTION:
Minnehaha Academy seeks a Custodial Supervisor. This is a full-time, second shift position and reports to the Facilities Director. This position will provide leadership and supervision to staff and oversee the custodial services for the school in an efficient, cost-effective manner with the primary focus on the needs of the people served.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for supervision (recruiting, interviewing, hiring, dismissal, evaluation, promotion, and training) of direct staff and indirect supervision of several seasonal custodial staff.
- Establishes standards and procedures for custodial staff. Evaluate work assignments to assure reasonable and equitable workloads for personnel.
- Coordinates the work schedules of direct staff to ensure proper coverage of all school activities and scheduled vacations with a minimum impact on building coverage.
- Examines buildings to determine the need for repairs or replacements of furniture or equipment and makes recommendations to management.
- Provides feedback and suggestions to Facilities Director regarding procedures for all buildings staff to maintain a cleaner, healthier, safer, and more efficient environment in which to work and learn.
- Assigns duties to temporary workers and ensure conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Investigates complaints regarding housekeeping/custodial service and equipment, takes corrective action.
- Ensures completion of assigned cleaning schedule including glass, wall cleaning, dusting, display cases, restroom care and other tasks.
- Performs custodial duties as needed, particularly for shift relief for custodial staff on vacation, sick days or when short-staffed.
- Ensures completion of specialty cleaning schedule over summer and other school-break periods for heavy cleaning such as stripping/refinishing, carpet cleaning, etc.
- Performs a regular inventory of stock to ensure adequate supplies, and issues supplies and equipment to team as needed.
- Organizes work assignments, personnel actions, timecard review and prepares periodic evaluations.
- Screens job applicants, and recommends new hires, promotions, job changes and dismissals.
- Fosters an attitude of support, on the part of all department personnel, for all schoolwide and community activities which take place in our facilities.
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned or apparent.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong familiarity with custodial equipment and custodial/security procedures.
- Proven ability to supervise staff.
- Team player.
- Dedication to providing a clean, healthy, and safe facility with an eye for detail.
- Strong organization skills and work ethic.
- Have or willing to obtain Boiler Operator License.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma.
- Knowledge of federal, state, local and industry guidelines regarding sanitary and safety procedures.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory housekeeping, head custodial or other similar position.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift, carry push or pull objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to withstand long periods of standing and walking.
- Comfortable with climbing ladders, climb and moving in confined spaces, working on the roofs, driving vehicles and equipment, working in temperature extremes, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to respond promptly to alarms and facility related emergencies, even in off hours.
- Comfortable withstanding exposure to dust, fumes, odors, gases, chemical substances and electric currents.
- Accepts the need to and will handle bodily fluids during waste disposal and other routine activities.
