Job Summary

Job Summary

This position exists to provide academic assistance to nursing and allied health students . Under general supervision, the CLA tutor provides direct academic support to students with an emphasis to practical nursing and medical assistant programs.

Minimum Qualifications (required skills to enter the job; must be identified on application materials)

  • Associate or higher degree in Nursing; AND 1 academic year of teaching / tutoring experience in nursing at the high school level or above;
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications ( desired but not expected to have to enter job)

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing, medical assistant, and phlebotomy programs taught at Ridgewater College
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong working knowledge of Desire2learn, Zoom, and Teams
  • Knowledge of methods and strategies needed to aid in the students' comprehension / completion of coursework and the ability to adjust these methods and strategies according to the needs of the individual student.
  • Knowledge of Ridgewater College goals and mission. Understanding of value and goals of both career and technical and liberal arts education.
  • Ability to work independently in assisting students, especially those with academic disadvantages.
  • Ability to translate complex information into concrete concepts while accommodating students' learning styles to aid their comprehension.
  • Skills in interpersonal communication.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Windows, and other software used in technical courses.
  • Ability to locate supplemental information online to aid students' comprehension and completion.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of student support services such as career development and educational planning.
  • Ability to work with administration, faculty, staff and agencies.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other legal and privacy issues.
  • Additional Requirements

    In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college / university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
