The Senior Advisor, Board of Estimate and Taxation is named in the city charter and reports directly to the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) to support the Board in executing its responsibilities. The board educates itself on City finances so that it understands the basis for setting maximum levies and approving certain levy funded bond issues. The Senior Advisor continuously coordinates this education process for the Board. The Senior Advisor provides the Board with comparisons of City levies and property tax supported debt burdens relative to similar communities and in line with government best practices.
