Job Summary

The Grant Writer will write compelling grant proposals and reports to maintain the current base of revenue and develop new sources of support from government agencies, foundations, corporate partners, and United Way for PPL programs. Develop professional, competitive requests / proposals for funding of PPL operations and programs according to specifications and timelines of funding sources. Manage grant portfolio and staff relationships to ensure timely submittal and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Develop narrative proposals to government entities and corporations / foundations based on information from program staff, pertinent information from the PPL grants library, and data from research of community needs.
  • Review detailed funder specifications and utilize these to assess opportunities, gather information and attachments, and write proposals that align with funder priorities.
  • Determine required documentation for proposals and reports, and communicate with relevant staff to manage the process for timely assembly of attachments (letters of support, collaborative relationships, and financial information) to meet application / reporting requirements.
  • Customize a narrative that competitively markets the organization’s expertise with an awareness of the goals and interests of the audience who will review proposals.
  • Collaborate with staff to gather information for writing and submission of thorough and accurate reports to funders and provide assistance to program staff to support funding reports.
  • Review budgets for proposal inclusion to ensure that narrative and budget sections are compatible with each other and align with funder requirements.
  • Coordinate proposal process as required to meet deadlines, including communicating with staff about upcoming opportunities and requirements and establishing timelines for review by program staff and / or leadership and subsequent revision.
  • Write and support the production of timely acknowledgment letters to funders for grants received.
  • Monitor the status of requests and communicate with funders as needed.
  • Research and analyze trends both locally and nationally.
  • Contribute to tracking of institutional fundraising and portfolio management using Raiser’s Edge database, Asana, Microsoft Office suite, and other tools.
  • Actively participate as a member of the PPL Development & External Affairs team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possess a clear, concise writing style with grammar and sentence structure knowledge.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply marketing concepts to written requests.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to interact professionally with funders, research sources, and program partners, and with colleagues on a collaborative team.
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize, coordinate, and complete work assignments within deadlines.
  • Able to be productive and multi-task in an environment that requires the development of multiple proposals simultaneously.
  • Possess a thorough, organized, and detail-oriented approach to work.
  • Display flexibility to present different PPL programs to funders in the manner most suitable for each request.
  • Familiar with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and PDF manipulation to present requests in a professional and appealing manner, along with the use of the internet for research purposes.
  • Possess a growth mindset, knows when to ask questions, and welcomes feedback.
  • Self-motivated and show initiative to promote securing funds for PPL programs.
  • Education and / or Experience :

  • College education or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience preparing requests that resulted in funding is preferred.
  • Salary : $56,000.00-$62,000.00 / Yr., DOQ

    PPL's work structure has evolved into a Hybrid Model where available, striking a balance between on-site presence at the office or satellite locations and remote work from home based on the program's needs. Working with your supervisor to find the right balance for your team will evolve over time.
