As the Indigenous Education Specialist with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), you will lead collaborative statewide initiatives to strengthen the capacity of Minnesota's schools so they can provide high quality Indigenous education. You will help districts to fully implement the standards through aligned instruction, curriculum, assessment, and professional development. the duties for this position will include:

  • Working with the community to develop curricular materials to implement Indigenous Education for all;
  • Developing and maintaining a statewide system of training and support that helps districts implement curricular materials to fully implement the Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards as it relates to Indigenous Education through aligned instructions, curriculum, assessment, and professional development;
  • Working with tribal governments to provide guidance on standards, graduation requirements, and related state policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Five (5) years of professional experience as an educator or providing guidance and expertise on K-12 Academic Standards

OR

A bachelor's or master's degree and four (4) years of professional experience as an educator or providing guidance and expertise on K-12 Academic Standards.

Experience must include:

  • Experience leading Indigenous Education at a state, tribal or district level
  • Classroom teaching experience at a district level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
