As the Farm to School and Early Care student worker, you will support the development and implementation of Farm to School and Early Care initiatives, which connect local farms with schools and early care providers. You will have the opportunity to engage in educational activities, promote healthy eating, and enhance the local food system. You will gain experience in food systems, educational programming, event coordination, and community outreach. Duties will include:

  • Support organization and promotion to Farm to School and Early Care events and activities.
  • Help with educational activities for schools, students, and communities related to local food sourcing, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture practices in schools and early care settings.
  • Participate in outreach and communications with local farmers, schools, parents, and community members.
  • Assist with preparing educational materials and presentations.
  • Conduct research and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrollment in a post-secondary or graduate program in agricultural education, nutrition, public health, communications, marketing, environmental studies, business management, or a related field.

Basic knowledge of local agriculture, nutrition, or sustainability practices.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with farm-to-school and early care programs, gardening, or food service.

Strong interest in nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or education.

Additional Requirements

Student Worker Eligibility:

To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Clerical you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absence cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Education Verification form prior to appointment.

A job offer will be contingent upon successfully passing a background check. The background check may consist of the following components:

  • SEMA4 Records Check (applies to current and former state employees only)
  • Employment Reference Check
  • Conflict of Interest Review
