The Data Request Specialist will work enterprise-wide to protect and release data under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA). The position will receive requests, verify request for information, ensure proper policies, procedures, and statutes are followed for classification of data, redacting and releasing information when appropriate. The Data Request Specialist knows the locations, formats, and sensitivity of records requested from the Department of Human Services (DHS). The Data Request Specialist will consult and work with the records management team, DHS divisions and county, tribal partners to ensure compliance with data practices policies and practices.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Responds to enterprise-wide DHS data requests to ensure that data are supplied in an accurate, complete, and timely manner, ensuring transparency to the public and adequately protecting all data that are not public.
  • Coordinate data requests for all enterprise-wide DHS data to ensure data are supplied in an accurate, complete, and timely manner, ensuring transparency to the public and adequately protecting all data that are not public.
  • Collecting information to determine and document costs and invoices associated with each data request.
  • Maintaining accurate databases and records regarding the release of information and data based on policy and regulations.
  • Interacting and consulting with the public, and business/program areas which create or maintain records.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in records management, information classification, or releasing information. Experience must demonstrate:

  • Ability to identify and analyze data requests and practices issues and respond in accordance with data practices laws.
  • Knowledge of complex legal and policy issues in the field of data practices and release of information.

**A Bachelor’s degree in a records management, information management, paralegal or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience**

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA).
  • Knowledge and experience in HIPAA.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of human services data, programs policies, and systems.
  • Knowledge of DHS operations.
  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
