The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is looking for a qualified individual to join our Minnesota Sex Offender Program - St. Peter Distribution Services Team within the Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) Division of the agency.

As the Distribution Center Assistant, you will assist facility staff with all property related issues, provide current and accurate records of MSOP and Forensic Services client/patient owned property and review incoming and outgoing client/patient property with a major emphasis on security.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Understand and properly implement policies, procedures, and statutes governing client rights to process client property that is entering or leaving the facility.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing property so that no contraband enters or exits the facility.
  • Create and maintain current, accurate, and accessible client/patient inventory records.
  • Ensure that all property is processed within the controls of Department of Human Services and Minnesota Sex Offender Program policies and procedures.
  • Distribute property and provide customer service to clients within a secure facility.

The Minnesota Sex Offender Program serves people who are court ordered to receive sex offender treatment via the civil commitment process. Program staff provide comprehensive services including therapy, education programming, therapeutic recreation, vocational programming, security services, and health and wellness to clients in a therapeutic environment where safety and security are at the forefront of all campus activities. The Forensic Services campus in St. Peter is comprised of the Forensic Mental Health Program and the Forensic Nursing Home. Forensic Services provides mental health evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety. The Forensic Nursing home provides care to individuals under a civil or criminal commitment that require a nursing home level of care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or GED
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide information to clients, including phone calls and walk-in contacts, in a helpful and courteous manner.
  • Data Entry skills sufficient to create database records, update entries, and apply the basics of spreadsheets and supply/retrieve information in databases.
  • English language skills sufficient to read, write, understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.
  • Math skills sufficient to add, subtract, divide, and calculate averages.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to develop and modify basic spreadsheets, and sort and extract data.
  • Word processing skills sufficient to develop and modify a variety of correspondence, records, and reports including tasks such as performing mail merges, developing forms, and creating charts.

EDUCATION VERIFICATION - Applicants will be required to provide a copy of their high school diploma at time of interview OR copies of their college transcript or college degree/diploma at time of interview. Copies of the college degree/diploma are acceptable ONLY if it clearly identifies the field in which it was earned.

Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) healthcare facilities require employees to provide documentation that they are free from tuberculosis (TB) through a blood test prior to employment. DCT does not accept TB skin testing.
