The Community Addiction Recovery Enterprise (CARE) in Carlton has a new opportunity for a Peer Specialist. CARE Carlton is a women’s only facility that specializes in providing inpatient treatment services to women with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. All services are person-centered, building on the individual’s interests and capacity for growth, leading to a lifelong process of recovery. Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides support to clients in accordance with the treatment plan and guidance from clinicians.
  • Implement strategies to inspire, encourage, motivate, and instruct clients through relapse prevention and recovery.
  • Lead and engage in sober leisure and independent living skills activities with clients.
  • Assist with transitional activities as part of aftercare planning and discharge, including transportation.
  • Attend appointments and other community-based activities with the client to support recovery.
  • Assist with accessing resources to obtain housing, employment, education and advocacy services
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, drug free, therapeutic environment.

Minimum Qualifications

A Peer Specialist must:

  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent; AND
  • Have a minimum of one year in recovery from substance use disorder; AND
  • Hold a current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board, the Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders, or the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. An individual may also receive a credential from a tribal nation when providing peer recovery support services in a tribally licensed program. The credential must demonstrate skills and training in the domains of ethics and boundaries, advocacy, mentoring and education, and recovery and wellness support; AND
  • Receive ongoing supervision in areas specific to the domains of the recovery peer's role by an alcohol and drug counselor.

REFERENCE/BACKGROUND CHECKS - The Department of Human Services will conduct reference checks to verify job-related credentials and criminal background check prior to appointment.

Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) healthcare facilities require employees to provide documentation that they are free from tuberculosis (TB) through a blood test prior to employment. DCT does not accept TB skin testing.
