Job Summary

Established in 1891, Itasca is the oldest state park in Minnesota and one of the first state parks in the country. Home to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River, the park is one of the top tourism attractions in the Upper Midwest. Itasca State Park operates 7 days a week with visitors on-site 24 hours a day during peak operations.

This announcement will be used to fill multiple positions throughout the 2025 operating season at Itasca State Park.

Itasca State Park is currently seeking a part-time Cabin Cleaner to provide housekeeping and custodial services for overnight accommodations. Normal anticipated season dates are from mid-April to mid-October. Work hours vary, and workdays include evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities include:

  • Clean overnight accommodations and other park facilities.
  • Clean bathroom facilities including tubs, showers, sinks, and fixtures.
  • Make beds and replace linens and bedding.
  • Clean and dust furniture.
  • Clean kitchen areas including stove, refrigerator, cabinets, sinks, and dishes.
  • Clean furniture, fireplace, walls, windows, floors, ceilings, walkways, and porches.
  • Clean laundry work area.
  • Wash, dry, and store linens and other laundry; sort and bag other linens for pick up; receive and count clean linen.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used for cleaning sufficient to determine proper methods and use effectively and safely.

Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents, and soaps sufficient to handle, apply, and dispose of safely.

Knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel.

Ability to read and understand written instructions on product labels, in safety manuals, operation manuals, etc.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Customer service/communication skills sufficient to provide information and assistance to the public and staff in a courteous manner.

Organizational and interpersonal skills sufficient to work as a productive member of a team.

Conflict resolution/human relation skills sufficient to negotiate, resolve issues, read situations, and settle disputes equitably by finding common ground and cooperation.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of cleaning experience.

Knowledge of park rules, policies, facilities, and other local points of interest.

First Aid and CPR training.

Additional Requirements

For positions that require driving responsibilities, an unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record is required.
