This is a full-time Housekeeping position at the Minnesota Veterans Home - Hastings Domiciliary (DOM) which is a board and care setting for Veteran residents. This position will perform a variety of Housekeeping responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Maintains building floors and hallways using machine or manual processes by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing and stripping wax, and vacuuming and scrubbing carpets
  • Clean windows, ceilings and walls by determining appropriate cleaning agents, mixing chemicals, and applying them
  • Clean and maintain rooms and furniture by dusting, moving, rearranging, setting up or taking down tables and chairs, and making minor repairs to furniture
  • Cleans restrooms by scrubbing floors, sinks, stools; maintaining supplies of soap and paper products and emptying wastebaskets and trash containers
  • Cleans assigned state-maintained sidewalks by shoveling snow, applying sand and/or de-icers, and removing ice, rubbish and other materials
  • Assist in distribution of clean linen and pick-up of soiled linen, stripping bed linens; itemize and count clean linen

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment
  • Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely
  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to operate and use them effectively and make minor repairs

Ability to:

  • Use hand tools and handle fairly light materials manually
  • Perform work functions using ladders and scaffolding
  • Perform laundry functions
  • Function in adverse weather conditions
  • Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction
  • Make minor mechanical repairs to maintenance equipment
  • Operate simple maintenance equipment
  • Follow instructions, read and understand operational manuals, and keep simple records

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of floor care experience, including stripping, waxing and working with floor equipment
  • Previous experience working with Veterans
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and maintaining confidentiality

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
