What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation and Interpretative Staff position at Minnesota Discovery Center?
Major Objectives:
Provide educational and entertaining interpretive tours and programs to Minnesota Discovery Center visitors via walking, hiking, biking, and canoe/kayaking. Responsible for driving the Redhead Mountain Bike Park shuttle van in a safe and responsible manner and for being a positive representative of Minnesota Discovery Center. The shuttle services water recreation and mountain biking.
Qualifications:
• Ability to drive the shuttle with training
• Ability to drive and maneuver a trailer
• Ability to learn, develop, and give interpretive tours
• Able to physically exert oneself in exercise like movements
• Exhibits enthusiasm and flexibility
• Ability to communicate well
• Ability to follow instruction
• Experience biking, hiking, and/or canoe/kayaking preferred
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred
• Experience in hospitality, resort work, etc. preferred
Responsibilities:
• Drive shuttle safely
• Load and unload kayaks, canoes, and mountain bikes for visitors
• Greet and converse with visitors
• Develop and lead interpretive tours for the public
• Hike, bike, and kayak while holding a conversation
• Ability to work with digital image capture equipment to create content for on-line social media platforms and virtual tours
• Teach proper etiquette, safety, and technique with bikes and kayaks/canoes
• Keep shuttle, trailer, and water recreation equipment clean
• Other duties as assigned
Working conditions:
• May be required to lift to 80 lbs.
• May be seated and driving for extended periods of time
• Will be required to bike and hike over varied terrain
• Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors
• Will be required to wear safety devices and/or location monitors
• Will be required to work around open water sources in canoe/kayak
• Both weekday and weekend hours required, some evenings
