LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102
COMPENSATION: $24.20 hourly minimum (approximately $50,320.00 annual minimum)
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2080 annual hours) position. Must be available to work a regular Tuesday to Saturday schedule, including occasional evenings and some flexibility for meetings and team vacation coverage.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to provide direct supervision for assigned museum interpretive staff and to coordinate the daily operations of the Minnesota History Center museum and field trip operations. This position is responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating assigned interpretive staff and volunteers. The Museum Supervisor participates in the annual and long-range planning of the History Center’s Museum operations unit. This position will also serve as a liaison between all MNHS departments that work in the museum.
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Provide direct supervision of museum interpretive staff on a day-to-day basis; 2) Coordinate the daily operations of the museum at the Minnesota History Center; 3) Responsible for the hiring and training of interpretive staff in coordination with other supervisors; 4) Coordinate Museum Assistant volunteer program; 5) Ensure gallery security and visitor safety in daily museum operations; 6) Participate in the annual and long-range planning of the History Center Museum Unit; 7) Serve as a liaison between all MNHS departments that work in the Museum; and 8) Participate in informational meetings and professional development activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work a regular Tuesday to Saturday schedule, including occasional evenings and some flexibility for meetings and team vacation coverage.
Ability to hire, train, coach, and supervise others, both paid staff and volunteers.
Strong customer service background.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Knowledge of informal learning theories and experience with interpretive methods and techniques.
Good knowledge of Minnesota history and cultural diversity issues.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under adverse circumstances.
Understanding of security, safety and emergency procedures.
Ability to resolve problems quickly and independently.
Bachelor Degree or equivalent in American history, education, museum studies, or related field.
