This position serves our partners at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) within the Department of Public Safety (DPS). MNIT BCA provides comprehensive IT operations and support services, custom application development, and dedicated business-specific support functions for investigative and specialized law enforcement services. You will support an agency that partners with law enforcement, public safety, and criminal justice agencies to prevent and solve crimes.

We're seeking a dynamic IT and Business Support Specialist to provide critical services for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Minnesota Justice Information Systems (MNJIS). This role supports criminal justice agencies across the state, ensuring seamless operation of our justice information systems.

What You'll Do:

  • Be the Backbone of Criminal Justice IT:
  • MNJIS Application Support: Be the go-to expert for our state's criminal justice backbone system. Assist users by responding to inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and providing system administration.
  • User Administration: Facilitate communication between technical teams and criminal justice professionals, translating complex technical issues into actionable solutions.
  • Incident Coordination: Lead the charge in resolving technical incidents, collaborating with both technical and business staff to ensure swift and effective solutions.
  • Web Access Troubleshooting: Resolve issues related to web-based client access to BCA and MNJIS applications, ensuring uninterrupted service for all users.

Support and Connectivity:

  • VPN Assistance: Help users set up and maintain VPN connections, resolving any connectivity issues to ensure they can access critical applications securely and reliably.
  • System and Network Monitoring: Oversee local, state, and national system interfaces, including FBI NCIC, NLETS, CHS, and DVS, ensuring they operate flawlessly.
  • CJDN Agency Support: Provide comprehensive support to agencies accessing MNJIS applications across the state, from software installations to troubleshooting and resolving client issues.
  • BCA Computer Support: Assist BCA computer users with hardware, software, and account issues, ensuring their tools are always up and running.

After a six (6) month probationary period, you may be eligible to telework for up to three (3) days per week.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications on their resume:

This position requires a minimum of one (1) year of IT application support, administration, and troubleshooting.

Experience must include:

  • Network troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshooting web-based applications.
  • Enterprise experience managing and supporting external customers on the phone and via email.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Technology, Criminal Justice, or related.
  • Experience using or supporting Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement applications.
  • IT Service Desk customer service experience.
  • PC troubleshooting skills.
  • Service desk software experience.
