Description:
The Strategy, Performance, and Projects Office of the State Court Administrator’s Office is seeking a Research Analyst I. This professional position is responsible for managing the internal and external information request process, conducting data and statistical analyses, and collaborating on court research projects. The position is temporary with an end date of June 30, 2026.
Duties:
The following are the major job duties expected for this position to perform:
- Manage the information request process
- Communicate with internal and external customers, determine the customer’s specific need, and define business requirements
- Develop SQL queries to extract data from large, complex databases
- Create datasets responsive to the customer’s need and provide final results.
- Coordinate and collaborate on court research projects
- Analyze court data to identify trends in filings, dispositions, case outcomes, and complex case activity
- Work with Research and IT staff on the design and development of reporting environments using business intelligence tools.
- Develop, summarize, and provide findings to provide actionable information for decision-makers
- Serve as an expert on court information and techniques used in deriving, analyzing, and interpreting data from the statewide court case management system and other research databases
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social science, information technology, public policy or a related field from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in research methodology, information systems, and/or statistics.
- One to three years of experience coordinating and conducting research projects
- One to three years of experience working with databases, coding queries, and conducting data analysis, including demonstrated proficiency with SQL.
- One to three years of experience communicating with customers, conducting public outreach, or working in public relations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Microsoft Power BI and/or Tableau.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Ability to code SQL queries and work with large datasets from diverse sources to translate complex data into useful analytical files.
- Knowledge of quantitative and research methodologies/techniques.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Skilled in collaborating with others to determine information needs.
- Proficient in translating data and research findings into easily understood terms for a non-technical audience.
- Strong and effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to determine a course of action where current processes and practices do not exist.
- Ability to function independently in working with the public, media, non-profit institutions, and other state agencies in order to fulfill research requests and data sharing questions.
Salary: The expected starting salary range for external candidates is $31.52 - $40.17 per hour ($65,814 - $ 83,875 annually). The full salary range for this position is $31.52 - $48.81 per hour ($65,814 - $101,915 annually). This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.
