Classification: Certified

Terms of Employment: To be established by the Personnel Team and Board of Directors annually.

Evaluation: Performance is evaluated annually by the Personnel Team in accordance with board policy.

Compensation: $31,708-$77,838.75 annual salary, based on experience and education

Job Summary:

The Elementary General Education Advisor works with up to 19 students, grades K-6, in the completion of the MNCS Project-Based Curriculum and the Minnesota Academic Standards. The advisor teaches academic skills and assists students in completing the steps of a project, keeps all attendance, transcripts, and records up to date and available. Elementary General Education Advisors also take an active role in staff teams. Advisors take on additional duties as necessary, according to availability, skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Work with up to 19 students
  • Keep records of students including report cards/transcripts, and attendance up to date
  • Design and/or implement engaging lessons/curriculum
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans
  • Implement student assessment and evaluate results
  • Work with and meet individual student needs through differentiation
  • Assist students in the project process, as is appropriate by grade level: brainstorming and designing individual or small group projects, locating appropriate resources, setting up schedules, monitor progress
  • Design and/or participate in activities and experiences for all students that promote students’ academic and behavioral growth
  • Provide supervision during assigned morning, recess, lunch, dismissal, and other outdoor activities
  • Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Maintain student confidentiality
  • Work with or learn to work with various office machines and classroom technology
  • Have good computer skills, including a willingness to learn to use Google platforms
  • Prepare for and attend all parent/teacher conferences, presentation nights, and other events as assigned
  • Assist with building cleaning/maintenance when necessary including before special events, and at end of school year
  • Work in a team setting
  • Maintain good work attendance record

MNCS Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and carry out yearly professional development plan (PDP team)
  • Follow the direction of EdVisions Coop and the Board of Directors
  • Serve on site based and professional teams
  • Chaperone events and field trips, and supervise students as needed
  • Refer to letter of employment for work schedule
  • Participate in Staff Evaluation Process and Self Evaluation Process
  • Follow established procedures for school purchases
  • Attend all required professional development and staff meetings
  • Request PTO days (absences etc.) with personnel team

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students in multiple educational settings.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Teaching Degree is required in major area of study
  • Three years outside experience preferred
  • Experience in a project-based educational setting preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid K-6 or 1-6 Minnesota Teaching License or willingness/ability to obtain tiered license if requested by district
  • Multiple disciplinary licensure preferred

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and the public.

Mathematical skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as basic arithmetic calculations, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations that are directly related to the duties of this position.
  • Ability to gather and graph data related to student progress.

Reasoning Ability:

-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

-Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds such as boxes of books and technology carts. The employee may be required to complete crisis intervention training for the physical restraint of students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, and ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud depending on the activities of the day. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors. Duties may also include working with students in public settings.
