Position Summary
The Plant Specialist I – Boiler (PSI-B) has the responsibility of the boiler, air heater and gas path cleaning, inspection and maintenance. They are also responsible for supervising contractors, outage scheduling, outage repair work planning, and execution. During forced outage incidents due to tube leaks, the PSI-B will work with a more experienced Plant Specialist to complete any repairs.
Essential Responsibilities
Maintenance of Boiler, Air Heater and Gas Path
- Manage boiler, air heater and gas path maintenance activities for forced and scheduled outages
- Monitor boiler operating conditions
- Direct the activities of boiler wash contractors
- Coordinate outage inspections of boiler, air heater and gas path equipment
- Prioritize and accomplish outage maintenance activities
- Supervise boiler, air heater and gas path maintenance contractors
Project management
- Project budgeting
- Acquisition of labor and material resources through the procurement process
- Contractor management
- Construction planning, coordination, inspection, and quality control
- Startup and testing
- Prepare and conduct project training for operations and maintenance
- Complete the project records
- Complete project closeout
- Ensure coordination of efforts between different departments, organizations and vendors
Engineering analysis
- Perform comprehensive studies within assigned areas of responsibility
- Identify areas for improvement that reduce total cost of ownership
- Evaluate and test equipment
- Review systems to improve efficiency, reliability, availability and load factor
- Review and evaluate designs/proposals of consulting firms
Operations and Maintenance Support
- Provide day-to-day guidance to operations and maintenance personnel
- Provide technical expertise in areas causing problems to operations
- Provide assistance under emergency conditions for repair of vital equipment
Assist with engineering work and inspections
- Assist engineering staff with design or testing functions
- Assist with engineering project tasks as assigned

Job Qualification Standards
Education and Training
- Position requires, at minimum, an associate degree in any technical field preferably with a welding background.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Experience
- This is an entry level position.
- Applied experience in boiler, air heater, duct and flue repair methods
The pay range for this position begins at $64,447 per year with a starting mid point at $80,628.50 per year. Appropriate compensation will be determined based on a candidate's skills, education, and any previous relevant experience.
