Located: Houston, TX
Primary Responsibility:
The Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient procurement, scheduling, and inventory control of raw materials and components to support production demands. This role collaborates closely with suppliers, production teams, and purchasing to maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing waste and disruptions in the manufacturing process.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. or 6:00 am -3:00 pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage material planning schedules to align with production needs and customer demand.
- Monitor inventory levels, forecast material requirements, and initiate purchase orders as needed.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries, resolve shortages, and address any supply chain issues.
- Coordinate with production, purchasing, and logistics teams to optimize inventory flow and reduce costs.
- Utilize MRP/ERP systems to track and manage material planning, ensuring system accuracy.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce lead times.
- Monitor supplier performance and work with procurement to establish and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and support cycle counting initiatives.
- Work with engineering and production teams to manage material changes and phase-ins/phase-outs.
- Support new product introduction by ensuring material readiness for production.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 1 years of experience in materials planning, inventory management, or procurement within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems, inventory control, and demand planning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities for working with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, supply chain optimization, and continuous improvement principles is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the company's specific ERP system.
- APICS (CPIM) or other supply chain certification.
- Familiarity with just-in-time (JIT) inventory strategies and lean manufacturing principles
