The School Counselor helps students to manage the social, emotional, and personal challenges of adolescent development. Through individual counseling, classroom wellness curricula, schoolwide programming, and consultation, the School Counselor supports students in developing emotional awareness, healthy coping strategies, and interpersonal skills. Respond to urgent student mental health concerns; perform risk assessments and coordinate plans for student safety including referrals and care coordination. Consult with teachers and other staff on promoting healthy social/emotional development and implementing interventions in the classroom.Requirements Masters degree with LCSW, LMHC, School Counselor, or School Adjustment Counselor licensure required. At least 2 years experience in the educational field and/or being a part of a support team for students is preferred.
Demonstrated effectiveness counseling adolescents and recognition of appropriate boundaries in working with adolescents. Experience developing and delivering group or classroom-based content preferred. Sound judgment and experience addressing sensitive and urgent emotional issues. Critical thinking and analytical skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, family members, and members of the public in a diverse population. Ability to quickly learn and navigate student information systems and online platforms.
