Miss Sue's Nursery School is a nurturing and dynamic early childhood education center located in Melville, NY. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Assistant Teacher to join our team and help foster a positive learning environment for children ages 2-5. As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with our lead teachers to support the academic, social, and emotional development of each child, assisting with classroom activities and maintaining a structured, engaging atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Classroom Instruction: Support the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans, activities, and educational projects that align with the curriculum.
- Daily Bus run as a Bus Matron: Assist Driver on a daily morning bus run to collect students and bring them to school. In addition, where needed, help cover midday and afternoon bus runs. The last
- Rotational Classroom Support: Flexibility is key, this position will rotate between all classrooms and assist on an as needed basis.
- Child Supervision: Monitor and engage with children during structured activities, free play, and outdoor time to ensure safety and provide guidance.
- Provide Individualized Support: Help children with activities such as reading, writing, basic math, and social-emotional skills.
- Promote Positive Behavior: Encourage positive interactions among students and help resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.
- Maintain Classroom Environment: Help keep the classroom clean, organized, and stocked with necessary materials.
- Collaborate with Team: Work closely with the lead teacher and other staff to assess student progress and contribute to parent-teacher communication.
- Assist with Daily Routines: Help with arrival, snack time, transitions, bathroom routines, and other aspects of daily operations.
- Foster Social and Emotional Growth: Support children in developing appropriate social skills and emotional regulation in group settings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field).
- Experience: Previous experience working with young children in an educational setting is a plus, but not required. We are open to training motivated individuals.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
- Strong communication skills, both with children and adults.
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
- Knowledge of basic child development principles is a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Additional Information:
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
