Residential Accounting Controller

General Purpose

The Residential Controller is responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting functions for over 200 residential properties, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial records. This strategic leadership role requires a deep expertise in financial management, a data-driven approach to decision-making, and a strong commitment to operational excellence. The Residential Controller leads a team of 15-20 accounting professionals, driving the development and execution of key financial processes, controls, and systems. This role serves as a critical liaison between senior management, clients, and internal teams, aligning accounting practices with business objectives, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge:

• Strong technical expertise in property accounting, GAAP, and financial reporting.
• Solid analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and strong attention to detail
• Prior experience and knowledge in the reading, understanding and analysis of financial statements

Skills:

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Advanced skill level with Microsoft Excel
• Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word
• Advanced skill level with Microsoft Outlook/Exchange/Teams
• Strong technical accounting skills
• Strong organizational skills proven experience to meet deadlines timely, accurately, and consistently
• Proven experience to effectively manage a team

• Minimum 8 years of experience with practical experience in Real Estate accounting and/or Property Management
• Minimum 5 years in a leadership role overseeing a team and managing client relationships
• Experience with Yardi is required
• Experience in cash management, forecasting and planning

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required from an accredited four-year university (MBA or Master’s preferred)
• CPA or similar professional designation preferred
