What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Lifeguard position at Mission Valley Aquatics & Fitness?
Primary responsibilities and duties of a certified lifeguard may include but are not limited to:
- Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas.
- Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Mission Valley Aquatics (MVA) policies and procedures.
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area, using proper scanning technique (10x10).
- Is prepared to be first responder to all medical emergencies in the building in accordance with MVA policies and procedures.
- Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Maintains accurate records as require by MVA and/or the MT State Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Continually checks pool for hazardous conditions.
- Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.
- Maintains a safe and clean aquatic deck area, including but not limited to: picking up equipment after open swim use, picking up trash and the deck and other areas at appropriate times.

$14.00 - $16.00 hourly

Employee must have understanding of:
- An adequate understanding of pool chemistry and cleaning after the training period
- Mission Valley Aquatics & Fitness policies and procedures including emergency protocols
Employee must have skills including:
- Organizational and leadership skills
- Outgoing and positive attitude
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and general public
- Ability to enforce safety protocols to the patrons without hesitation
Minimum Qualifications:
- MUST be an active American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard
- MUST be currently certified in CPR, AED and First Aid
- must be willing to undergo blood borne pathogens training within first 6 months of hire
- must be willing to complete sexual harrassment in the workplace and child safe training within the first 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of pool equipment and the operation of aquatic facilities or a willingness to learn these skills
- Ability to pass background check and drug test
