Job Title: Junior Graphic Designer

Location: Mississippi Children's Museum | Jackson, MS


Job Summary:

The Mississippi Children's Museum is seeking an entry level Graphic Designer to join our marketing and communications team. This position is ideal for a passionate designer with a strong eye for visual storytelling and a desire to contribute to meaningful work that inspires children and families. The Graphic Designer will assist in creating engaging and visually compelling content across various platforms to promote museum programs, events, and exhibits for both Jackson and Meridian locations. The Graphic Designer will directly report to the Director of Marketing. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Graphic Design

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to design print and digital materials, including flyers, newsletters, posters, and promotional campaigns for both locations.
  • Assist in maintaining and evolving the museum's brand identity, ensuring consistency across all communications.
  • Create engaging visuals for museum exhibits, events, and outreach programs that appeal to children and families.
  • Support the development of materials for community outreach, donor relations, and educational initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing files for print production and liaise with external vendors as needed.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring high-quality results.
  • Provide creative input and solutions to enhance the museum’s visual presence.


Photography & Media

  • Serve as one of the museum’s photographers, capturing high-quality images for marketing, promotion, and archival use.
  • Edit and organize photographs, ensuring they align with the museum’s brand and style guidelines.
  • Properly store, backup, and catalog media files to ensure easy retrieval.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong portfolio showcasing creativity, technical skills, and an understanding of design principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce polished, high-quality work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to take direction and incorporate feedback.
  • Knowledge of design for both print and digital mediums.
  • A passion for creating family-friendly and educational content.


Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with web design and tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with motion graphics or video editing software (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro).
  • Knowledge of photography or illustration is a plus.
  • The ability to develop innovative designs that capture attention and engage the audience.
  • Skill in juggling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and learn new tools or techniques as needed.
