Exhibit Specialist

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History seeks an exhibits specialist to join the Museum Division. Based in the Curatorial Services section, this position is responsible for constructing exhibit components, assisting with exhibit installation and deinstallation, maintaining existing exhibits, and managing traveling exhibits.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in general construction, carpentry, and painting; be capable of lifting heavy loads exceeding 50 lbs.; be comfortable working on ladders and lifts; and demonstrate strong organizational skills in a fabrication workshop.

Responsibilities include constructing specialized exhibit components such as museum-quality platforms, cases, crates, and signs; fabricating custom artifact mounts while adhering to high conservation and museum standards; preparing galleries; and assisting with exhibit installation and deinstallation. The exhibits specialist will also collaborate with MDAH museum sites to address exhibit needs, conduct routine maintenance, administer vendor contracts, procure necessary supplies, and manage traveling exhibits and the department’s prop collection. Additionally, this role involves working with curatorial staff to develop temporary, traveling, and permanent exhibits, assisting in content development, and serving as an exhibit project manager when assigned.

Qualifications

This role typically requires a bachelor's degree and two years of related experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33,600.00 - $40,000.00 per year
