POSITION SUMMARY
MJEG and MFP are seeking a Revenue Coordinator to join our diverse, cohesive, and supportive team of journalism and nonprofit business professionals. The women-founded Mississippi Free Press launched at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and immediately attracted widespread attention nationally and internationally for our mission-driven coverage of vital issues and stories.
We are looking for a Revenue Coordinator to help grow our revenue and support our revenue team, understanding that individual donors and their growth are essential to our fundraising strategy. The Revenue Coordinator will support the planning and implementation of our revenue generation, focusing on small-to-medium donors and supporting our MFP VIP Club membership program. The successful candidate will be outgoing, super-organized, and excited about fundraising and donor stewardship to align with our mission to serve Mississippi and the nation through essential journalism.
The Revenue Coordinator will report to the Director of Revenue Operations and work closely with the Chief Revenue Officer and the CEO. This person will also work closely with stakeholders, including donors, foundation partners and our fundraising committees. This position requires heavy telephone use, good writing skills and other forms of communication.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Support year-round individual and giving efforts on all levels in addition to bi-annual fundraising campaigns by coordinating and producing donor communications. This includes assisting with personal calls to every new donor and handwritten thank-you notes, tracking pledge forms and donor lists, scheduling meetings for the CEO, CRO and/or the Director of Revenue Operations, acknowledgment letters; holiday cards; event invitations, reminders, and follow-ups.
- Research to build a pipeline of major donors and foundation prospects.
- Track campaign goals and progress.
- Track new, recurring, canceled donations and steward them along the relationship pipeline.
- Increase revenue streams and potential advertising contracts.
- Handle and track pledges, advertising invoices, advertising payments and offline donations.
- Work with the revenue team and assistant on coordinating fundraising events by curating guest lists, sending invites, and coordinating with hosts, locations and vendors.
- Attend monthly staff meetings in Jackson, Mississippi.
- Attend fundraising events and meetings in Mississippi and nationwide as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
THE ESSENTIALS:
- The successful candidate should have at least two years of experience in fundraising and donor stewardship.
- Be knowledgeable or super-curious about donor engagement and research, fundraising platforms, fundraising data management and CRMs, fundraising calendars and current fundraising technologies.
- Be nimble and able to pivot when priorities shift. Willingness to learn new things in the everchanging nonprofit media landscape is vital.
- Background in or willingness to learn Google Suite and Canva as well as other fundraising tools.
- Cares deeply about the mission of the Mississippi Free Press understanding that we are a nonpartisan newsroom focused on fair, balanced and impactful reporting.
- Are willing to talk with supporters and donors on the phone and at in-person.
- Ability and willingness to meet fundraising goals focused on individual donors.
- Willing to work in the office in downtown Jackson the majority of each week.
THE NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Experience in fundraising for nonprofit media.
- Willingness to sell and steward advertising as needed..
- The ability to edit and write fundraising appeals via newsletter text and social media and assist with grant writing.
- Close ties to Mississippi.
- Willingness to travel for journalism conferences and summits as well as other fundraising training, meetings and opportunities.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- This non-exempt position is full-time with a minimum salary of $50,000 a year depending on fundraising experience and record of success.
- We offer 100% of the employee’s medical, vision and dental benefits through our group plan; family members may be covered through employee contributions.
- This position’s PTO is based on hours worked per week up to a total of 24 days of PTO (full-time) and nine holidays for 33 total paid days off a year, which increases after three years of employment. That includes seven non-religious holidays and two floater days staff members to use for either religious or non-religious days off due to their personal preferences and needs.
