What are the responsibilities and job description for the OR RN SUPERVISOR position at Mississippi Sports Medicine?
The Operating Room Nurse Supervisor will provide quality care to surgical patients via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and medication administration in the Ambulatory Surgery Center in Flowood. The Operating Room Nurse Supervisor will collaborate with coworkers to achieve departmental goals and objectives in accordance with established policies. The OR RN Supervisor will work closely with the Manager/Director of the OR to maintain safe practices and uphold staff accountability within the department.
Responsibilities:
- Checks all equipment for proper functioning such as cautery machine, suction machine, OR light and OR table
- Help scrub nurse with setting up the rooms
- Assist Anesthesia
- Preparing surgical instruments/tools and materials for the surgical team needed during the operation
- Assist surgeons during surgery if needed
- Knowledge of asepsis, infection control, anesthesia
- Excellent communication skills
- Proactively assess the need for staff daily by reviewing anticipated case volume and flexing staff as needed.
- Work with administration on Quality initiatives to ensure all quality measures are tracked and opportunities for improvement are addressed.
- Develop a training program for new hires including written training guides and digital materials and follow-up to ensure success in this environment.
- Assist with supply/equipment needs and communicate to the appropriate personnel.
- Work closely with OR RNs, Surgical Techs, and orderlies to ensure all daily tasks are completed and maintain staff accountability.
- Monitor daily/weekly OR cleaning logs to maintain a safe surgical environment.
- Co-chair of the Quality and Safety Committee
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nursing License – licensed to work in MS
- Must possess general clinical competency in acute patient care
- Must demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters
- Nursing experience in a surgical setting preferred
- Documentation of current BLS certification (ACLS and PALS preferred)
- Must possess the ability to manage peers and hold staff accountable
- Must be able to delegate responsibilities and follow-up on desired outcomes
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced surgical environment
