Visitor Experience Intern
Missouri Historical Society

The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from current college and graduate students who are interested in museum visitor experience and seek a paid internship within its Visitor Experience Department. Through research and firsthand observation on the museum floor, the intern will learn museum visitor experience best practices, then apply them to interactions with visitors. In addition to working with the public, the intern will collaborate on various projects aimed toward enriching visitor engagement, such as a supplementary gallery brochure, an activity, an interactive pop-up display, or a visitor-facing evaluation.
Schedule
This is an in-person internship . The intern will be expected to work 15 to 20 hours per week for 10 to 12 weeks during summer 2025, including some weekends. The intern reports to the Manager of Visitor Experience at the Missouri History Museum, and the final schedule will be determined with the supervisor.
The intern's responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) :
- Working individually and as a team to foster a welcoming and engaging environment so all guests can make personal connections to history
- Researching items in the Museum's teaching collection and developing findings into an interactive, engaging pop-up display cart to be staffed by the intern
- Developing content for a gallery guide, brochure, or supplementary activity that can be used by Museum visitors
- Researching topics to enhance the Missouri History Museum visitor experience
- Engaging in visitor-facing evaluation methods, such as interviews and observation
- Attending professional development opportunities
