General Statement of Job

The Event Support Technician provides technical support to internal and external constituents of the University. The primary role is to assist with the operation of audio, video and related technology systems in support of events scheduled in university venues or in support of official University functions at external venues.

Essential Duties

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setup, operation, and strike of audio, video, and lighting equipment for on-campus events and University sponsored off-campus events.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with meeting hosts and planners through effective communication.
  • Monitors events and checks in on them throughout the day.
  • Meets with event requestor on-site to ensure their needs are met, and equipment is set up and working correctly.
  • Responsible for the routine preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Responsible user support and troubleshooting for all the audio-visual equipment in MSSU event spaces such as auditoriums, theaters, athletic facilities, and conference rooms.
  • Assists with basic operation of a theatrical rigging / fly system.
  • Maintains inventory of event support equipment for the IT department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, And Licenses

Experience operating or installing professional audio and video equipment is preferred.

Two plus years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet insurance requirements for driving university provided vehicles.

The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, texture perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to smell. This position requires above average hearing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
