What are the responsibilities and job description for the Formulation Chemist position at Mister Car Wash?
We’re currently seeking a Formulation Chemist to join our Headquarters team!
The Formulation Chemist is an expert in the “science behind the wash”. This individual will be a leader in both bench top and real-world testing in Mister Car Wash facilities. With a focus on the chemistry within the wash, this person will help pioneer the wash science that keeps our customers’ cars clean, dry, and shiny. Collaboration with Operations, Procurement, Finance, and our Training departments will play a key role in taking chemical development from concept to reality. Success in the position requires creative problem solving and strong attention to detail.
This position will be located at our Warehouse: 2301 N Forbes Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85745
What You Will Do:
Research, identify, and propose ideas to improve the customer experience, revenue generation, efficiency, and safety of wash process
Understand function and formulations across product line, identifying areas of opportunity for reformulations and new product development
Owns projects from inception to release in the realm of developing/assessing new wash products and procedures
Complete formula development, from primary source research, raw material selection, bench scale blend ups, stability testing, functionality testing in lab and field
Balance quantitative and qualitative testing in both laboratory and field settings based on project stage and formula needs
Lead product functionality testing and blend small scale test formulations for assessments
Develop and implement novel test methodologies to assess and validate product efficacy
Follow good laboratory practices while performing bench top testing
Keeps lab facility clean, organized, and ready for use
Manage sourcing, storage, test-batch blending, and safe disposal of chemical and reagent inventories
Support regulatory and safety initiatives
Operation, validation, calibration, and maintenance of analytical testing equipment
Generate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for various standard laboratory practices
Identify and source key equipment or supplies for tests
Other duties as assigned
How You Will Shine:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a similar field
1 year(s) of experience in formula development, preferably on HI&I (household, industrial, and institutional) products
Proficient with hand and power tools
Ability to travel 10-25%
Ability to perform vigorous physical work and lift up to 50 pounds
Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to stakeholders
Extensive abilities in test method design and data analytics
Mechanical experience preferred, particularly in the car wash field
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Skill at managing multiple projects and balancing competing deadlines
