JOB TITLE: Child Nutrition Assistant
REPORTS TO: CN Manager
NATURE OF WORK:
An employee in this class is a cook specialist as a main dish cook, baker, and dessert cook or salad chef. The employee prepares food by standardized recipes and specified quantities. Employees are expected to be proficient with all techniques in their specialty area of food. Although products are prepared by standardized recipes and in specified quantities with deviations from these made only on approval of the Manager, the employee works from general instructions. Work is checked only as occasional evaluation of finished product and is performed under the general supervision of the Manager.
JOB DUTIES:
- Read recipes and directions for numbers of meals to be served.
- Calculates the amount of ingredients for the number of portions to be served.
- Measures and mixes ingredients.
- Computes time to be used in preparing and finishing products on time.
- Proportions product into prescribed serving size.
- Arranges food and supplies to retain sanitation and quality.
- Assists with putting up and storing food deliveries.
- Notifies manager of equipment repairs needed.
- Records material and supplies needed.
- Serves on line.
- Prepares food by approved recipes.
- Assists with cleanup duties, includes sweeping, mopping and washing dishes & dish room.
- Accepts other responsibilities by Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of food preparation and serving practices.
- Working knowledge of safety and sanitation standards.
- Skill in the use of food preparation equipment.
- Ability to make computations necessary for conversion of recipe quantities and timely food preparation.
- Ability to plan a sequence of steps in food preparation.
- Ability to operate computers and point of sale.
- Ability to read and comprehend recipes and directions for use of equipment.
SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Sufficient education to read training materials and other directions and experience in quantity food preparation. Must have a high school diploma or GED.
