What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal (2046) position at Mitsubishi Chemical America?
We are looking for a paralegal to manage and coordinate the intellectual property portfolio of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG) companies in the Americas and to work on corporate governance projects, including implementing delegation of authority policies, signature authority processes, and assisting with legal entity management.
This is a hybrid role with the expectation to report to the office 1 day a week.
The MCG companies own and generate a broad scope of intellectual property. This role will involve coordinating and supervising all aspects of intellectual property prosecution and maintenance in domestic and foreign jurisdictions.
Good corporate governance is essential to compliance. This role will involve special projects related to corporate governance, including the delegation of authority from the businesses to the officers and employees.

- Understand and maintain the intellectual property portfolio of the MCG companies in the United States
- Work with MCG employees and in house and outside counsel to file and prosecute applications for patents and trademarks
- Monitor progress of patent and trademark applications and matters
- Manage deadlines to respond to office actions issued by domestic and foreign IP offices, track prosecution events, and pay fees to maintain applications and issued patents and registered trademarks
- Coordinate responses to prosecution events and outside counsel that require input from employees and lawyers
- Develop budgets for filing patent and trademark applications and maintaining the IP
- Manage and coordinate domestic and international intellectual property docket

- Drafting documents that can be used by boards of directors, management teams, and officers to document and manage change of control and delegate authority to employees for approval and signature matters in order to become more efficient and agile while ensuring compliance.
- Aligning policies in the Americas Region with and to MCG global policies
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies or Paralegal Certification
- 2 years of experience handling intellectual property issues in-house or at a law firm
- Excellent organization: tracking individual IP applications, status of document reviews and approvals
- Clear and timely communication: updating stakeholders and seeking necessary information
- Accountability: taking initiative to progress applications and projects, follows up with stakeholders, and outside counsel and meets all deadlines
- Knowledge of domestic and foreign patent and trademark procedures
- Experience with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) filing system
- Ability to draft and prepare patent and trademark documents for submission to the USPTO
- Familiarity with corporate law, particularly Delaware corporate law
- The salary range for this position is $66,500-$83,100. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
