MJB Communications, Inc. is looking for an outgoing, talented, and responsible public relations expert and content developer to join an energetic team as its new Communications Specialist.
Our ideal candidate is a great content producer/writer, creative thinker, and motivated team player, with solid written communications background and work experience. This position offers you the opportunity to work independently but also collaboratively as an integral part of a small, but established, communications, public relations and marketing agency. You would be part of a close team where your creative brainstorming and strategic ideas are encouraged to help provide solutions for our clients.
This job is a mix of working both onsite at client locations and remotely. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MJB Communications (www.mjbcommunications.com) is looking for a Communications Specialist who is adept at handling public relations and content development for media in all its forms, from news releases to web and print articles to e-newsletters to social platforms.
As a Communications Specialist, you will help MJB uncover its clients’ strengths and opportunities, to develop customized strategies that connect them with their target audiences. You will be a storyteller and a strategist. You will be a liaison, consulting with clients and creating content, including (but not limited to) blogs, press releases, leadership messages, newsletters, website content, direct mail pieces, brochures, and marketing copy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Draft press materials, including pitches, releases, media alerts, biographies, talking points, FAQs, etc.
- Proof and distribute press releases, media alerts and other communications.
- Build/maintain media lists, coordinate media requests, identify media opportunities, and proactively pitch stories to maximize our coverage.
- Develop positive relationships with clients and their organizational leadership, the media, the community, and other parties to maximize press coverage and connection with all constituents.
- Write newsletters and blogs for our various clients.
- Write marketing copy to be used on the web, social media, print ads, radio ads, etc.
- Assist with in-person and virtual client events.
- Work collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and fellow team members to reach communication goals.
- Assist with communication plans and strategies, including evergreen and seasonal campaigns
- Photography and videography
- Measure the success of various communications projects, as well as exploring tools and trends that can enhance such efforts.
SKILLS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong editing skills.
- Comfortable talking to strangers, building relationships, and making cold calls.
- You can balance creative thinking and business acumen. MJB wants you to let your creativity soar when it comes to conceptualizing for our clients, and then able to work within deadlines and specific client directions when it comes time to create the content.

- Media relations experience
- Understanding of education, economic development, and tourism-related communications
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with capability to work within target deadlines
- Able to multi-task, pays attention to many details and multiple tasks while minimizing errors.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related studies
- Minimum 2 years of communications experience
- Knowledge/experience in:
- Microsoft Office 365
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Content Management Systems (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.)
- Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Email Marketing Systems (MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.)
- Media Relations Tools (Cision, Business Wire, PR Wire, etc.) Other duties as assigned.
