The Estimating Team of Michael Kinder & Sons is focused on preparing detailed estimates and proposals for hard bid and negotiated projects ranging from $10K to $50MM. Projects from multiple industries, including universities to restaurants to industrial to nonprofit, etc., may include conceptional, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates. YOUR EXPECTATIONS
INTERPRET DESIGNS | ACCURATE HARD NUMBERS | EDUCATE OWNERS
· Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to develop accurate estimates for commercial construction projects.
· Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
· Assist senior estimators with the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring all costs are covered and the bid is competitive.
· Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information needed for accurate cost projections.
· Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring cost-effective pricing without compromising quality.
· Help monitor and track the project’s budget during construction, providing regular updates to the project team.
· Maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best pricing and reliable delivery schedules.
· Utilize construction estimating software to produce accurate and timely estimates (experience with tools like Procore, Sage Estimating, or similar is preferred).
· Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and company policies during all phases of estimating.
· Assist in preparing final cost reports, comparing estimates to actual costs, and providing recommendations for improving future estimates.
· Stay current with industry trends, new materials, and construction techniques to improve the accuracy and efficiency of estimates.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
· 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on commercial projects.
· Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Procore, Sage, or similar platforms).
· Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
· Knowledge of cost control procedures and the ability to work within tight deadlines.
· Ability to work well in a team environment, while also demonstrating independence and initiative.
